How to Configure a Wireless Router

Now a configure a router has become very easy. Hardware manufacturers of routers are making it easier than ever for even non-technical users to put together home networks. New routers come with clearly labeled ports, in some cases, color-coded, making it simple for users to connect everything.

How to Configure A Wireless Router at Home-

before starting the configuration of the router, You have to do below preparation. 
  • Find a right place for your router.
  • Connect the Power supply to the router.
  • Connect your internet modem to router.
  • Connect a computer or laptop to the Router. 
After these important steps. Open your computer or laptop and follow the below steps- 

1- Find the IP Address of the router:- 

Every Router Company has its own  Default IP addresses.

  1. If you are using a new Wireless Router then You can determine the Default IP address on the label of the box. 
  2. if you using the old one then you can search the default IP address by its model number. 
  3. You can also use the commonly used default Local IP addresses like 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, 192.168.2.1, 10.0.0.1 etc.

2- Connect and Open a web browser on the Computer:-  


  1. Open the default web browser like Chrome or Firefox on the computer and enter the IP address of the router in the address bar and Run it.
  2. Your browser will redirect to the Router's configuration page.
  3. There is another way for installation the Router, SOme Router came with an installation disc, if your Router is one of them then just run the configure program from that instead. It will accomplish many functions of the same functions.

3- Enter Your Login Details:- 

In order to access the Configuration page, you will need to enter the valid username and password in this Prompt. For new ones, it will be written on the label of Box.
  1. The most common username is "admin".
  2. The most Common Passwords are "admin" and "Password".
  3. Some Router only requires a username and a blank password.
  4. If you are not able to figure out the correct IP address, username or password, Search it online by using your Router model no.
  5. Enter the right username and password then press the Enter button.
  6. If you are using an old router and don't remember the Username and password then Press the Reset button to restore factory defaults and try again. take this for an example on how to setup belkin router

4- Open the wireless Setting:-

 After login to your router, you will redirect to the router's main menu. 
  1. In the wireless section, you will see SSID or name. Enter a unique name for your wireless Network. when other devices will scanning for the network then they will see this name. 
  2. come up next option this is security option. For the best security select the WPA2-PSK. this is the most secure encryption method and difficult to crack. 
  3. Now create a password to secure your Wi-Fi. Enter a password with the combination of letter, numbers, and symbols in Passphrase. This will make your password difficult to break.
  4.  After finishing the Wireless Network Setting, Click the Apply or Save button.this will apply to your router. Once the router has finished resetting, your wireless network will be enabled.

5- Secure Your Router:- 

After configuration of your router, change the router username and password. This will help you to protect your router from unauthorized changes. For changing username and password you have to go to Administration section of the router configuration menu.

Now your Router is configured.
